Franz Wagner
Franz Wagner grabs 13 rebounds vs. Atlanta
Tue, Apr 15, 2025, 4:30 PM
Franz Wagner amassed 13 points (6-of-15 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), 13 rebounds, three assists, two steals and one blocked shot in 34 minutes in Tuesday's win over the Hawks.
Analysis: Wagner struggled with his shot on Tuesday but contributed in other ways as Orlando earned the seventh seed in the East. The 13 rebounds were the most he's grabbed in a game this season, and the Magic wing only hit double figures in that category twice before Tuesday. Add in the assists and steals; all wasn't lost for DFS players who slotted Wagner into their lineups. That said, Wagner will need to be much better if the Magic are to have any chance of knocking off the Celtics in the first round.
Wendell Carter
Wendell Carter Jr. posts 19/7/2/0/2 stat line
Tue, Apr 15, 2025, 4:23 PM
Wendell Carter Jr. logged 26 minutes in Tuesday's win over the Hawks, tallying 19 points (8-of-12 FGs, 2-of-4 FTs), seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one three-pointer.
Analysis: Carter was excellent on Tuesday, and the time off that comes with earning the seventh seed should benefit him. The Magic center rolled his right ankle during the first half and banged knees with a Hawks defender during the third quarter. The good news is that neither injury forced Carter out of Tuesday's game immediately, and Orlando pulling away during the fourth quarter got him a little more time on the bench late. The Magic don't play Boston in Game 1 of their first-round series until Sunday, which should help Carter regain strength.
Anthony Black
Anthony Black records 16/4/4/0/2 line vs. Atlanta
Tue, Apr 15, 2025, 4:18 PM
Anthony Black played 28 minutes in Tuesday's win over the Hawks, amassing 16 points (6-of-7 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), four rebounds, four assists, two blocks and three three-pointers.
Analysis: Orlando's starting backcourt of Cory Joseph and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope combined to score 14 points on 4-of-14 shooting from the field. Black was one of two reserves to pick up the slack, combining with Cole Anthony to score 42 points on 16-of-24 shooting. The second-year guard scored 41 points in Orlando's final two regular-season games, likely boosting his confidence ahead of the Play-In tournament. Tuesday's victory means Black and the Magic will be the seventh seed in the East, and they'll face the reigning champion Celtics in the first round. Game 1 is set for Sunday in Boston.
Cole Anthony
Cole Anthony comes up huge, scores 26 points
Tue, Apr 15, 2025, 4:13 PM
Cole Anthony shot 10-of-17 from the field and 2-of-2 from the foul line in Tuesday's win over the Hawks, scoring 26 points with three rebounds, five assists and four three-pointers in 20 minutes.
Analysis: On a night when starting guards Cory Joseph (5/5/2 with one three-pointer) and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (nine points, two assists, one block and one three-pointer) combined to shoot 4-of-14 from the field, the Magic received vital contributions from both “Anthonys.” Cole shot well over 50 percent from the field in scoring his 26 points. His highlights included a 4-of-6 fourth quarter in which he made three three-pointers. Anthony Black also had a big night off the bench, but Cole is the more capable scorer. He'll need to play to this level consistently if the Magic are to have a chance of upsetting Boston in the first round. Game 1 will be on Sunday.
Jonathan Isaac
Jonathan Isaac turns in double-double as starter
Sun, Apr 13, 2025, 9:42 AM
Jonathan Isaac recorded a double-double on Sunday with 12 points (5-of-9 FGs), 10 rebounds, two assists, one steal and three blocks against the Hawks.
Analysis: Isaac only played 19 minutes in his first start of the season, but that was enough time for him to record his first double-double since January. Isaac has averaged 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists, one steal and three blocks while playing 19 minutes across Orlando's last two games. Injuries have plagued his career, but he's an elite defender when healthy. Isaac could play a pivotal role for the Magic during the postseason.
Anthony Black
Anthony Black puts up 20/10 double-double vs. ATL
Sun, Apr 13, 2025, 9:38 AM
Anthony Black led the Magic with 20 points (7-of-16 FGs), 10 rebounds, two assists, three steals, one block and three three-pointers in a 117-105 loss to the Hawks on Sunday.
Analysis: Black's second year in the league has been better than his first, and he was able to close out the regular season on a high note. After scoring 21 points on Friday, Black added a 20-point double-double in this game, which was the first double-double of his career. The 21-year-old should be an important rotation piece for Orlando during the postseason, but we won't see lines like this from him in the playoffs. Still, the 2023 No. 6 overall pick still has plenty of upside.
Jonathan Isaac
ORL starting Black, KCP, da Silva, Isaac, WCJ
Sun, Apr 13, 2025, 6:06 AM
Fawzan Amer
Anthony Black, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Tristan da Silva, Jonathan Isaac and Wendell Carter Jr. will start against the Hawks on Sunday.
Analysis: The only starter that will be the same as Friday is da Silva. KCP and WCJ sat on Friday but will surprisingly suit up in the inconsequential season finale. With a Play-In matchup with the Hawks coming in just a couple days, it's unclear how much KCP and WCJ will play. Black will replace the injured Cory Joseph in the starting lineup, with Isaac getting his first start of the season. Gary Harris, Caleb Houstan and Goga Bitadze will come off the bench after starting on Friday, though Houstan and Bitadze should still play significant roles.
Cory Joseph
Cory Joseph (knee) out, Anthony Black to start
Sun, Apr 13, 2025, 5:49 AM
NBA Injury Report
Cory Joseph (knee) is out for Sunday's game against the Hawks.
Analysis: Joseph will not play in Sunday's regular season finale, as the Magic will host the Hawks in a play-in tournament matchup on Tuesday. Anthony Black will replace the veteran guard in the starting lineup, and he's worth the risk in active deep leagues. He may not be a consistent shooter, but Black can rack up some steals against a Hawks lineup that will lack its top three players (Trae Young, Onyeka Okongwu and Dyson Daniels).
Wendell Carter
Wendell Carter Jr., KCP active vs. Hawks Sunday
Sun, Apr 13, 2025, 5:46 AM
Wendell Carter Jr. (hip) and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (knee) are active for Sunday's game against the Hawks.
Analysis: WCJ and KCP will return from one-game absences against Atlanta. Gary Harris and Goga Bitadze will likely be relegated to bench roles on Sunday.
Paolo Banchero
Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner out Sunday vs. Hawks
Sun, Apr 13, 2025, 5:41 AM
Paolo Banchero (ankle) and Franze Wagner (knee) have been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Hawks.
Analysis: Both the Magic's star forwards have been ruled out again. Tristan da Silva and Caleb Houstan have a good shot at receiving starting nods against Atlanta.
Cory Joseph
Cory Joseph (knee) questionable vs. Atlanta
Sat, Apr 12, 2025, 9:19 AM
NBA Injury Report
Cory Joseph (knee) is questionable to play against the Hawks on Sunday.
Analysis: Joseph was the lone typical starter that suited up for Orlando on Friday, though he only played six minutes. If he plays in the regular season finale, don't expect him to play a significant role. Anthony Black and Cole Anthony should fill out most of the point guard minutes.
Wendell Carter
Carter Jr., KCP questionable vs. Atlanta Sunday
Sat, Apr 12, 2025, 9:17 AM
NBA Injury Report
Wendell Carter Jr. (hip) and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (knee) are questionable to play against the Hawks on Sunday.
Analysis: Both WCJ and KCP sat out against Indiana on Friday, and it would be surprising if they played on Sunday since Orlando has already clinched the seventh seed in the East. Gary Harris and Goga Bitadze should start once again, with Jett Howard playing a significant role off the bench.
Paolo Banchero
Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner questionable vs. ATL
Sat, Apr 12, 2025, 9:14 AM
NBA Injury Report
Paolo Banchero (ankle) and Franz Wagner (knee) are questionable to play against the Hawks on Sunday.
Analysis: Both star forwards sat out against Indiana on Friday, and since Sunday's game won't have any impact on the standings, it would be quite surprising if either Banchero or Wagner suited up. Tristan da Silva and Caleb Houstan should start in their place once again.
Anthony Black
Anthony Black produces 21 points, seven assists
Fri, Apr 11, 2025, 3:50 PM
Anthony Black amassed 21 points (9-of-16 FGs, 3-of-3 FTs), six rebounds, seven assists and two steals in 31 minutes in Friday's win over the Pacers.
Analysis: With four starters sidelined and the fifth, Cory Joseph, only playing six minutes, Black played plenty on Friday. While the points, rebounds, assists and steals were solid, the second-year point guard was also responsible for five turnovers. Black will be in Orlando's postseason contention, but the last two games should mean more opportunities for him to play with the ball in his hands. Overall, he was good on Friday, and Sunday's game against the Hawks will present a similar opportunity.
Trevelin Queen
Trevelin Queen tallies game-high 25 points vs. IND
Fri, Apr 11, 2025, 3:46 PM
Trevelin Queen recorded 25 points (9-of-11 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), five rebounds, four assists, three steals and five three-pointers in 29 minutes in Friday's win over the Pacers.
Analysis: The Magic are guaranteed the seventh seed in the East, meaning they'll host the 7 vs. 8 play-in game early next week. As a result, four starters did not play on Friday, and Cory Joseph only logged six minutes. The absences meant more opportunities for Queen, and the two-way contract guard took advantage. He only missed two shots on the night, providing solid value in multiple categories. Sunday's regular-season finale against the Hawks won't mean anything, so Queen may get to play extended minutes again.
Jonathan Isaac
Jonathan Isaac makes 70th appearance of season
Fri, Apr 11, 2025, 3:43 PM
Jason Beede
Jonathan Isaac finished Friday's win over the Pacers with 12 points (3-of-7 FGs, 5-of-5 FTs), four rebounds, four assists, one steal, three blocks and one three-pointer in 19 minutes.
Analysis: Isaac entered the season with an incentive worth $2.6 million if he could appear in 70 games. Given the Magic forward's injury history, few expected him to meet the number. Isaac did so on Friday, with the 70 games being the most in a season since the 2018-19 campaign. He was productive against the Pacers, recording a complete stat line, including his first double-digit point total since February 8. The Magic, who have secured the seventh seed in the East, finish their regular season on Sunday against the Hawks.
Goga Bitadze
ORL starting Joseph, Gary, Houstan, da Silva, Goga
Fri, Apr 11, 2025, 11:45 AM
Fawzan Amer
Cory Joseph, Gary Harris, Caleb Houstan, Tristan da Silva and Goga Bitadze against the Pacers on Friday.
Analysis: Joseph will be the only typical starter for Orlando as they have opted to rest most of their starters for this game. The Magic are locked in to the seventh seed in the East, so there is no incentive for them to win or lose this game. This will likely be the same starting five for the regular season finale on Sunday.
Cory Joseph
Cory Joseph (knee) active Friday vs. Pacers
Fri, Apr 11, 2025, 5:52 AM
Cory Joseph (knee) is active for Friday's game against the Pacers.
Analysis: Joseph is dealing with a minor knee injury but is healthy enough to play on Friday. He appears to be set to continue starting at point guard.
Wendell Carter
Wendell Carter Jr., Kentavious Caldwell Pope out
Fri, Apr 11, 2025, 5:49 AM
Wendell Carter Jr. (hip) and Kentavious Caldwell Pope (knee) have been ruled out for Friday's game against the Pacers.
Analysis: Goga Bitadze will likely be called upon to start for Carter against Indiana. Anthony Black has been Orlando's most used sub lately. He or Cole Anthony could start for the injured KCP.
Paolo Banchero
Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner out vs. Pacers Friday
Fri, Apr 11, 2025, 5:41 AM
Paolo Banchero (ankle) and Franz Wagner (knee) have been ruled out for Friday's game against the Pacers.
Analysis: The Magic will rest both of their stars with nothing left to play for ahead of the play-in. Fantasy managers should expect Caleb Houston and Tristan da Silva to step up to fill starter spots at forward.
